This wall lamp is made from discarded CD cases. The perfect imperfections in the material combined with the 3D-printed lines create a mesmerizing reflection. The lamp is designed fully modular, to make future repurpose or recycling possible.
Compact Sun is the result of a collaborative research project with Emmaus thrift stores, van der Hoevenkliniek, the Good Plastic Company, Cantor and vanPlestik.
The material for this wall light is sourced by Emmaus thrift stores in the province of Utrecht in The Netherlands. All CD’s that are not sold are collected and then brought to Van der Hoevenkliniek where the CD’s and cases are disassembled and the separate waste streams are shredded. These shredded flakes are used as raw material for vanPlestik’s 3D-printers.

At vanPlestik, every product is made to order. In this way, we don’t produce any excess stock, and the product is made especially for you. Since we still need to print the product after you place your order, the delivery time of our products is 4 weeks.
